NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man was seriously injured in a shooting Monday morning in a Norfolk neighborhood, police say.
The man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Evidence markers were scattered all over Fenner Street as police investigated.
Crime scene techs were taking pictures of cars that had been hit by bullets.
One car had a bullet through a side window and a shattered rear window.
Neighbor James Edwards says he was walking home when he heard the shots.
“I heard a lot of gunshots, at least 10 or 11 of them,” said Edwards.
But instead of continuing home, Edwards says he took off in the other direction to make sure he wouldn’t get hit by the gunfire.
“I was originally going to walk up through here but I turned around and ran across the street,” Edwards said.
He says he waited until he knew it was safe.
“I had to wait til police came to walk back over here, I wasn’t about to try it.”
He says his family was inside their home — which is right in front of where the shooting happened.
But he says luckily everyone was OK.
It wasn’t until a little while later he realized his home had been hit by bullets, too.
“It’s crazy the officer told me to check my windows and I see a hole through the windows,” he said.
Police have not released any suspect information, but they are asking anyone with information to call police or use the p3 tips app.
