CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man was killed in an overnight shooting in a Chesapeake neighborhood, police say.
Chesapeake police said officers were responded to a report of gunshots in the 3000 block of Parkside Drive around 1:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot several times.
Police identified the man as 23-year-old Trevon Skinner of Norfolk. They say he died at the scene.
For many neighbors, this shooting happened too close to home. For one, it was so close it came right into her kitchen.
“It’s what makes me nervous from time to time, I hear gunshots and it’s crazy, it’s crazy,” the woman, who did not want to be identified, told 10 On Your Side.
When the shooting happened early Tuesday morning, she hid with her young son and called police.
She said,” I ran into the room, jumped on the floor, when I came back, looked out of the window.”
What she saw outside shocked her.
“The man just laying on the ground, just laying there,” she said. “It was crazy. I’ve heard gunshots from time to time but this is the first time I’ve actually seen that.”
Once she saw flashing lights, she went into her kitchen and saw a hole in her ceiling and the bullet that came through it.
“I saw plaster all over the counter, on the floor and I looked up at the ceiling and I saw the hole,” she said. “At first I thought it hit the window from how it sounded.”
She’s thankful she was in the other room, but is still shaken up.
“It is disturbing, very disturbing,” she said. With a young son, she wants to move out.
“It’s not safe, I think something needs to be done about it,” she said. “Because me living here with my son, I’ve been living here for 2 years now and that’s not something that I would want him to see.”
Police said no suspect information is available at this time.
