Man injured in Newport News shooting; suspect arrested

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon following a shooting in Newport News.

Police said there was a call about a shooting in the area of 30th Street and Madison Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. Officers arrived found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the 2900 block of Marshall Avenue. 

The man was taken to the hospital. Police say he is in stable condition. 

Police saw a possible suspect in the 3000 block of Marshall Avenue. They arrested 41-year-old John Lamont McKinnon of Newport News and have charged him with malicious wounding, shooting in a public place, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
