Man in custody after authorities respond to bomb threat in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One man is in custody after authorities were called to investigate a bomb threat at the The Main in downtown Norfolk.

Norfolk dispatchers said there was a call about the threat at the hotel just after 6:30 a.m. Police said in a tweet a bomb squad is searching the hotel “out of precaution.”

The circumstances surrounding the reported threat were not immediately clear.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Fire-Rescue said the suspect, Donald Woodruff, is charged with threatening to bomb and refused to answer any questions regarding a motive.

Police said the hotel was not evaucated, but people are being asked to avoid th area. A tweet from Norfolk Fire-Rescue said traffic is blocked off at W. Main Street and Martins Lane.

Police closed the 100 block to E. Main for a few hours before it reopened to traffic.
