NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man will serve 30 days in jail for assaulting an officer in August.
Newport News police said 43-year-old Michael Beale became combative and kicked officers who were trying to take him into custody after they had responded to a domestic situation.
Beale was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, intoxication in public and obstruction of justice following the incident.
Court records show Beale was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but had 150 days suspended on one of the assault charges and received no time for obstruction of justice.
The second assault charge, conduct and intoxication in public were withdrawn.
