Man found not guilty by insanity to stay in treatment center

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A retired Air Force veteran found not guilty by insanity in the shooting death of a man inside a James City County grocery store will remain in a treatment center until his next hearing.

Brian Hicks was scheduled to be in court Wednesday for a “Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity” review.

At the recommendation of health experts, he will stay in treatment until his next hearing — which is slated for July 17, 2019.

Hicks was accused of shooting Gabriel Maness in the middle of an aisle of a Farm Fresh in April of 2016.
