CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a homicide after they found a man dead on a sidewalk from apparent gunshot wounds late Friday night.

He’s been identified as Namel Prince Augustine, 25, of Chesapeake.

According to Chesapeake police, it happened just before 11 p.m. in the 800 block of Great Bridge Boulevard. They were called to scene after someone heard gunshots.

“We just heard four really loud things, it just sounded like gunshots or fireworks,” said neighbor Natalie Green.  “We typically don’t get anything like going on here, so it’s really scary that it’s so close and you know that’s the way we walk to the park and stuff so we’ll definitely think twice before doing something like that now.”

There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1 (888) LOCK-U-UP.
