Man facing drug and gun charges after deadly Chesapeake traffic stop stays behind bars

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Holden Medlin is in jail facing several drug and gun charges, after a traffic stop turned deadly in July. Medlin went before a judge for the first time Monday morning to officially hear the charges read against him.

Medlin has hired an attorney, but because his lawyer wasn’t in court on Monday, the judge wasn’t able to schedule a bond hearing. His preliminary trial is now scheduled for November 16.

This comes after two Chesapeake officers stopped Medlin and his passenger, Sara Wilson, who police believe was his girlfriend, on July 25. Officers say Medlin became combative and tried to run from police. Court documents show, while officers tried to restrain Medlin, his passenger Wilson got a gun from the car with her hands handcuffed behind her back and shot herself.

Officers found 11 Oxycodone pills, a syringe, a rifle, and several boxes of ammunition in the car.

This is not Medlin’s first run in with the law. In 2007 he was convicted of crimes like robbery and burglary. In 2017 he was charged with drug possession in Virginia Beach.

Police say both Medlin and Wilson were under investigation before the traffic stop.
