CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) —  A man is without a home and a dog was injured after a fire in the Indian River section of Chesapeake on Sunday.

Chesapeake Fire Department officials say they were called to a home in 4000 block of Surf Avenue around 2:45 p.m., after neighbors saw smoke coming from it.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the attic of the house. Firefighters from Virginia Beach and Norfolk assisted Chesapeake, bringing it under control by 3:18 p.m.

Officials say the dog’s injuries are minor and there were no other reported injuries.

The man was not home at the time of the fire, and cause is under investigation.
