Man dies of heart attack aboard cargo ship on James River

JAMESTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — A man died of a heart attack Monday morning aboard a cargo ship on the James River, officials say.

Battalion Chief Alton Catlett with the James City County Fire Department said the Balsa 92 left the Port of Richmond and dropped anchor just off Jamestown Island after one of its crew members suffered cardiac arrest.

Catlett said first responders were called to the scene around 10:20 a.m. 

Crews boarded the ship and tried to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful.
