Man charged in Norfolk girl’s death denied bond


NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man charged in the death of an 11-year-old girl in Norfolk has been denied bond.

Police charged Latoya Smith and Demont Harris with murder last week after Heaven Watkins died at a home on Balview Avenue.

An official with the Office of the Norfolk Medical Examiner told 10 On Your Side it was determined Watkins was killed by blunt force trauma to the head and torso. The case was ruled a homicide.

Smith was denied bond in a hearing May 25, while Harris was denied bond this morning.
