VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused of leading police on a high speed chase across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was denied bond.

Police say Troy Beacham was drunk when he ran though the toll gates on the North Plaza. He is charged with child abuse, drunk driving, refusal to take a breathalyzer and eluding police.

Prosecutors say speeds got up to almost 100 mph in the chase. They told the judge Beacham’s 13-month-old daughter was in the front seat not strapped in.

Virginia Beach officers had to use spike strips to get his car to stop along Northampton Boulevard.

Beacham told the judge he was only going 60 mph and his daughter was strapped in.

His preliminary hearing will take place July 20.
