Man arrested after robbing Dollar Tree in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police have arrested a man for a commercial robbery on Wednesday evening. 

Emergency Communications was notified at 9:18 p.m. of the incident that occurred in the 900 block of North Main Street at the Dollar Tree. 

Police say a man approached the register to seemingly pay for an item and implied that he had a weapon and demanded money. The cashier complied and the man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. 

Video surveillance photos helped positively identify the suspect as Timothy Shawn Colyer, age 35, of Suffolk.

A vehicle that was seen parked in front of the business was also identified as belonging to Colyer. Detectives began their search for the vehicle and Colyer was apprehended in the 600 block of East Washington Street without incident following a brief vehicle pursuit.

Colyer was arrested and charged with robbery and use or display firearm in commission of felony. He is currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
