HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing charges for allegedly throwing hot coffee on officers and tackling an officer as police tried to take him into custody.

According to Hampton police, officers responded to Scott Orthodontics around 9:30 a.m. on April 27, following a report that someone was refusing to leave.

This person — 31-year-old Jamar Deonte Peppers — allegedly became loud and confrontational with the officers, using profanity. Police say Peppers threw hot coffee on the officers when they went to detain him — and tackled one of the officers to the ground.

Police were eventually able to get Peppers under control. One of the officers sustained a minor laceration during the confrontation with Peppers.

Peppers was charged with disorderly conduct, destruction of city property and assault on a law enforcement officer.
