Man accused of sideswiping wife’s car, firing shots in Newport News


NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man is facing several charges following a crash that ended with two people shooting at each other last week.

Newport News police arrested 30-year-old Marquis Watkins on Friday for an alleged March 12 incident.

Police say Watkins’ wife was sitting in the car with a male colleague on Cottage Lane when he allegedly sideswiped the car several times. He then pulled out a gun and shot at his wife.

Police say she then pulled out a gun and fired back at Watkins, who drove away from the scene.

Watkins is facing the following charges: two counts of brandishing, two counts of malicious wounding, shooting a firearm in public place, assault, stalking, intentional damage, two counts use of a firearm in commission of a felony, failure to report accident and reckless driving.
