ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man accused of assaulting an Isle of Wight County deputy over the weekend was arrested following a manhunt.
The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office, the Smithfield Police Department and Virginia State Police worked together to track down 33-year-old Jeremiah Corbin, of Hampton, had outstanding warrants in Isle of Wight and Newport News.
Lt. Tommy Potter said with the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that Corbin’s arrest stemmed from a traffic stop.
A deputy stopped a vehicle on Brewers Neck Boulevard (Route 32) close to an Econo Lodge at 11:15 p.m on Saturday, Dec. 15.
A passenger in the vehicle — later identified as Corbin — got out, assaulted the deputy and ran into the woods, according to Potter.
Law enforcement searched the surrounding area, but could not find him.
Potter said the search for Corbin resumed Sunday morning after dispatch received a tip around 7:30 a.m. that someone matching Corbin’s description had been spotted coming out of the woods in the area of the Econo Lodge.
Authorities conducted an extensive search of the area. Corbin was taken into custody around 12:15 p.m. in an wooded area off Nike Park Road in the Carrollton area.
Corbin is charged with probation violation for possession of cocaineo out Newport News.
In Isle of Wight, Corbin is charged with felony assault charge of a law enforcement officer and bbstruction of justice.
Corbin was sent to Obici Hospital for a medical evaluation after his arrest and was later booked at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
