VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Members of a local task force are scheduled to return home Thursday afternoon from Hurricane Michael recovery efforts in Florida.
Over nearly a week and a half, Virginia Task Force 2 helped residents pick up the pieces following the devastation left behind by Michael.
The Category 4 hurricane has been blamed for several deaths, and left many communities without power for days.
Officials with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said the task force completed more than 1,400 structural assessments and 500 humanitarian checks on people who sheltered in place in Calhoun and Jackson counties.
The task force left Virginia Beach Oct. 9, just days after members returned from Hurricane Florence relief work in the Carolinas.
Officials said the task force is expected to return between 3 and 3:30 p.m.
