Local organization needs Christmas sponsors for Hampton Roads children

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – It’s the season of giving in Hampton Roads, but some families need a little more help than others.

A local organization called Christmas Sponsorship 757 is trying to help those families by getting gifts for more than 600 kids in need this holiday season, and they’re asking for your assistance.

“We only sponsored 112 kids the first year, which I thought at the time was amazing, but now we have completely blown up,” said creator Savannah Avery.

Three years later and Savannah Avery is trying to get nearly 700 more sponsors for children in need throughout Hampton Roads.

“169 In Hampton, 37 in Norfolk, 171 in Newport News, 52 in Chesapeake,” Avery said naming just a few.

To become a sponsor, it’s simple. All you have to do is go on Facebook and ask to join the group “Christmas Sponsorship 757.”

“You can just send me a message saying I want to sponsor this family. You can also tell us if you have gender or age preferences. Some family like to have kids that are the same age as their own kids,” explained Avery.

She says this whole idea has developed into something really rewarding, and although she feels overwhelmed, she knows it’s for a good cause.

“That’s the best part on Christmas when all the parents are posting pictures of their kids opening the gifts and that is what makes all the hard work worth it, just to see them all happy and being able to have the Christmas they deserve,” Avery said.

Avery said they are collecting for kids all the way up to 18 because she says each situation is different.

They are also gifting for some over 18 with special needs.

They need sponsors by December 15, so if you’re interested click here.
