Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Students in grades K-7 in a total of 23 school zones in Virginia Beach now have the opportunity to apply to An Achievable Dream Academy.

Students in kindergarten through 5th grade who participate in the program attend Seatack Elementary School, and students in 6th and 7th grade attend Lynnhaven Middle School.

According to CEO and President Lee Vreeland, now more students are eligible to apply for admission to An Achievable Dream, and the school district will provide transportation to the appropriate Achievable Dream location.

“An Achievable Dream is excited to have the students that would benefit from a holistic approach to education, the academic, the social and moral components,” said Vreeland.

The program is now open to the following schools:

  • Alanton, Birdneck
  • Brookwood
  • Christopher Farms, Cooke
  • Corporate Landing
  • Holland, King’s Grant
  • Kingston, Linkhorn Park
  • Lynnhaven

“We are thrilled to be able to open the program up to more students in Virginia Beach, and we are very proud of our ongoing relationship with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, and the supporters who make this expansion possible,” said Vreeland.

The Achievable Dream program began in 1992 in Newport News, and has since expanded to serve nearly 2,000 students in Newport News, Virginia Beach and Henrico County.

The program offers additional resources for students and families.

This includes an extended academic day and week, 4-week summer intersession, extensive field trips, clubs, uniforms, and social rotation courses including STEM, mindfulness and meditation, conflict resolution, ethics, etiquette and workforce communication, according to Vreeland.

The principal of Seatack Elementary, Vincent Darby Sr., says it’s a win for the community.

“It’s not necessarily what it’s doing today, but what it’s going to do tomorrow.”

Virginia Beach educators and students like Maya Mueller are hoping parents and students achieve their dreams and apply.

“Don’t be afraid, it’s the best decision of my life, honestly. I love it here. I would never go back. They give us beautiful opportunities.”
