Tree crashes through Colony Park home in Va. Beach during Tropical Storm Michael

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- A tree crashed into a home in Colony Park during Tropical Storm Michael on Thursday, leaving it unlivable.

10 On Your Side spoke with the couple who owns the home and has lived there for 17 years, Nightstar and Dave Stough. The couple says their home was completely paid for, but they did not have insurance to cover this type of incident.

"When I got up and I looked and I realized that it was destroyed. I was like 'oh God what are we going to do?'" said Nightstar.

Fortunately, neither of them were injured when the tree came through their kitchen around midnight during the storm. Both Nightstar and Dave were in other parts of the home when it happened.

Nightstar had 11 rescue animals she had taken in. It took hours, but as of Friday afternoon all the animals were accounted for and all are OK.

All day friends and neighbors have stopped by to help the Stoughs out any way they can.

"They're just awesome people, they're wonderful," said Diane Ellis, a longtime neighbor of the Stoughs. "They would give the shirt off their back to help other people."

Diane's daughter created a GoFundMe page to help out the couple.
