Man arrested after shooting on S. Budding Avenue in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police have made an arrest in a shooting incident that left a person injured early Thursday.

Dispatchers said they were notified at 1:06 a.m. about someone who was shot in the 100 block of S. Budding Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a man with an injury that wasn’t considered life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital for treatement.

The person who shot him had already fled the scene.

Around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Virginia Beach police said they had made an arrest in the shooting.

Jesse Deshawn Byers, 27, of Virginia Beach, was arrested and safely taken into custody. He is charged with felonious assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Virginia Beach police had assistance from the Warrant Fugitive Unit and SWAT to find Byers. A search warrant was served in the 900 block of Chimney Hill Parkway, and Byers was taken into custody.

Byers is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.
