Haygood Roller Skating holds food drive for VB kids

Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Haygood Roller Skating Center in Virginia Beach hosted a food donation drive Saturday evening.
Instead of paying regular admission, people brought canned or boxed food, or a cash donation. All donations go to local kids so they don’t go hungry when school lets out for the summer.
For many, school is the only place where they get a meal and many of them rely on the summer feeding program.
“This year we want to give back to the Virginia Beach Schools, cause around seventeen to twenty thousand students will not get lunch once school ends. So all the food that’s donated, all the money that’s donated, goes right to the public schools to make sure that these kids don’t go hungry,” said Brandon Stokes, owner and event organizer of Haygood Roller Skating Center.
The fundraiser wrapped up 10 p.m. Saturday evening. We’re working to find out how much they raised in donations.
