VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) — Bucketheads Beach Grill on Shore Drive was badly damaged by a fire Monday morning.

Dispatchers got the call at 8:42 a.m. and crews arrived shortly arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the building in the 3600 block of Shore Drive, just before the Lesner Bridge.

It took about 30 minutes to put the blaze out.

No one was inside at the time and no injuries were reported by firefighters.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined at this time, but crews spent hours at the scene. Both eastbound lanes of Shore Drive were closed but have reopened.

The roof over the front entrance was threatening collapse by midday as rain came down in Virginia Beach. Crews used shovels to dig through the debris after the fire was out.

10 On Your Side reached out to the restaurant to find out more about the possible cause and get an estimate of the damage.
