VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Recently appointed Councilman Guy Tower is now considering a run for a seat, after he previously said he wouldn’t run.
“I am thinking about it,” Tower said when reached by phone today. “That is all I can say at this time.”
Tower, 77, was unanimously appointed to the Beach District less than a month ago to fill the seat until a special election in November.
He succeeded David Nygaard who was removed from the seat after a three-judge panel ruled he failed to meet residency requirements when he ran for the seat back in November.
In his appointment application Tower indicated that he did “not intend to run for the seat in November.”
Since voting to appoint him, Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson, who currently serves At-Large, has announced she is running for the Beach District seat.
“He told the council he wasn’t running. Today, he told me he is considering it,” Wilson said. “I have already announced I’m running. I have filed and I supported him to be appointed. He has the right to run, but he told us he wouldn’t.”
R.K. Kowelewitch has also announced he would be running.
