Prisoner who escaped during transfer in Dare County back in custody

UPDATE: The Dare County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon that Zane Reynolds was taken back into custody and sent to the Dare County Detention Center.

MANTEO, N.C. (WAVY) — Authorities on the Outer Banks are searching for a prisoner who escaped custody while being transferred to the Dare County Detention Center on Tuesday night. 

In a release, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office says Zane Reynolds was in the custody of Nags Head police when he got away. He was last seen in Manteo on Burnside Road. 

Authorites say Reynolds has dreadlocks and is now likely wearing shorts and flip flops. 

Reynolds had been recently served a summons for indecent exposure and charged with first-degree burglary and assault in connection to an incident at a home on Parker Street in Kitty Hawk. 

Call Dare County authorities if you see Reynolds.
