Portsmouth teen police shooting suspect charged with armed robberies

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A Portsmouth teen already facing charges of trying to murder a police officer was in court Tuesday in an armed robbery case that happened a week earlier.

Will Patterson Jr. is charged in two armed robberies that police say follow a pattern.

Patterson appeared before Judge Joel Crowe in a case dating to Oct. 29. Police say Patterson and another teen used the buy and sell website Offerup to lure a woman to Prentis Avenue.

According to court documents, the two 15-year-olds used fake names on the site, offering to sell a mobile phone. Police say when the woman showed up, they robbed her at gunpoint of $250.

Patterson is charged in a similar armed robbery of a man on Maple Avenue on October 15 for $150.

Portsmouth Police officer Angelina Baaklini says when she was trying to arrest Patterson on November 6, he pulled a gun out and shot her four times. A Portsmouth Police spokeswoman says Baaklini is still recovering from her wounds and remains off duty.

Patterson's trial for attempted capital murder of a police officer is scheduled for the week of April 9.
