PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- It's the season of giving and local business owners are doing their part to spread Christmas cheer.
Owners of J'Louis Hair Studio and Love Thy Neighbor, LLC home care went to King Street to give dozens of people in Portsmouth a home-cooked meal and gifts on Christmas Day.
"I always see homeless people in the different areas. I just wanted to be a blessing to them and give back to the community," explained Yolanda Johnlouis, owner of J'Louis Hair Studio. "God blessed us to be a blessing to others. That's why we're here."
Michelle Tinner, the owner of Love Thy Neighbor, says its all about making less fortunate people feel comfortable during the holiday season.
"At the end of the day, this could be any of us. It was almost me one time while taking care of my mom. So, I'm glad I can give back," said Tinner.
Amos Scott says the meal paired with socks and gloves made him feel appreciative.
"To know that they thought about me when they didn't have to. They could have been in a nice warm bed watching movies. But they took the time out to drop by to show support and love. That's what we need out here," he said passionately.
Scott says the gesture makes him want to get his life on track.
"I've proved to myself that I can fail but now I'm striving to succeed," Scott said. "I'm trying to make something of my life. This just gave me that much more strength and incentive to succeed."
The group plans to give back again in April for Easter.
