Police release photos of suspect in homicide at Portsmouth gas station


PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are now investigating a homicide after a reported shooting at a gas station in Portsmouth.

It happened just after noon Wednesday at the Shell station at the corner of Effingham and South streets.

10 On Your Side is still learning more about the victim, a still-unidentified man, or if there were additional injuries reported following the shooting.

A number of neighbors and bystanders gathered outside the gas station after the incident occurred, many of them shocked that something like this happened here and in the middle of the day.

One woman, who didn’t want to go on camera, said she was inside when the shooting started.

At least half a dozen police cars including the forensics unit was on scene this afternoon until it was cleared around 4:30 p.m.

Police have not released any further details regarding the incident.

Police also released photos of the male suspect Wednesday night.
