PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Police in Portsmouth now say a double shooting late last night is a homicide investigation.
A 66-year-old man was shot to death just before 11:30 pm in the 2200 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, and a 63-year-old man was injured.
We found flowers on the front porch where 66-year-old Michael Roberts lived, and where he died from what Portsmouth police call a fatal gunshot wound.
Neighbor Norris Hoggard heard the shots.
“I heard the shots, pow, pow, pow,” Hoggard said. “I did not hear any arguing. “
Police showed up around 11:22 p.m. Thursday night, where they found Roberts and another man who had been shot with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released that man’s name.
“There were police officers around the house, and they told me to go back in the house,” Hoggard said. “They said it was a crime scene and I walked back to the house.”
We showed Hoggard video of a man in the back of a police car, but he said he didn’t know who that man was.
We asked had there been problems at the house before or arguments.
“No, I do not really know,” Hoggard said.
Neighbors said Roberts lived in the house with his brothers. Whether the other victim is Robert’s brother, we do not know,
“When I saw people with the ambulance, I thought someone must be hurt,” Hoggard said. “My brother was at the door, and I stepped out onto the porch, and the police told me it was a crime scene, and to go back to the house. I walked back in the house, and really know nothing else.”
Police have no further information on the suspect who left the scene.
Portsmouth Police say if anyone was seen running from the house Thursday night between 11:15 and 11:20 p.m., or have information about this incident to contact the Investigations Bureau at 757–393–8536.
