PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police said investigators are looking for two unknown suspects in connection to a shooting death Sunday night on Loxley Road.

Police said the call came in around 10:23 p.m. in the 20 block of Loxley Road, and the victim, Terry Miller, 62, was taken to a local hospital with a serious injury, and she died as a result of her injuries two days later.

Police said detectives have obtained surveillance footage showing two suspects at the crime scene and wearing black hoodies and facemasks. They were also holding a catalytic converter, according to police.

A document obtained by 10 On Your Side’s investigative team paints a picture of the timeline Sunday night on Loxley Road. Shortly before 10:30 p.m. the victim’s daughter was taking out the trash. The document then states she went back into the house and saw two masked men with a catalytic converter. One of the men said “don’t shoot, don’t shoot,” then the victim’s daughter reported hearing two gunshots. Her mother was struck in the upper torso.

The suspects ran out of the house and sped away in a gold SUV.

10 On Your Side spoke to people in the neighborhood. They declined an interview for fear of their safety but tell us they’ve witnessed illegal catalytic converter sales out of the home where the homicide occurred. They say it’s been going on for several years and they’ve even seen people scratching serial numbers off of catalytic converters with cars lining the street to purchase them.

We asked police if Miller was shot in an attempt to stop the men from stealing a catalytic converter. We were told that was not the case and that police would not elaborate further.
