NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities say a Virginia Beach man was caught with a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag earlier this week at Norfolk International Airport.
The Transportation Security Administration said the .380 caliber handgun was detected at an airport checkpoint on Wednesday, May 15. It was loaded with five bullets, including one in the chamber.
The handgun was confiscated and the man was detained for questioning.
This marks the fifth time TSA officers have detected a gun at the airport this year.
There 21 such instances in 2018.
TSA officials said passengers who bring firearms to checkpoints could face criminal charges.
