TSA: 10th gun detected at Norfolk airport, equaling 2017's mark

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A Pennsylvania man was caught with a loaded handgun Wednesday at a Norfolk International Airport checkpoint.

Officials with Transportation Security Administration said this is the tenth time this year that someone has been caught with a firearm at Norfolk's airport -- equaling the number seen in 2017.

Officials said the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania man was caught with a 45 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets in his carry-on bag. He was cited for a weapons violation.

This comes days after another passenger was caught with a loaded gun at ORF.

In recent years, the highest number of firearms detected at ORF was 16 in 2015. The number declined over the next two years. Both 2013 and 2014 saw seven firearms detected.
