NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is showing off its new helipads.
It conducted a test landing with Sentara Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance this morning. There are two new helipads on the roof of the hospital — in addition to a helipad on the ground.
The roof-top landing areas are part of the five-year $200 million three-floor expansion of the hospital.
Sentara officials said in a news release Tuesday Nightingale conducted 722 flights in 2018, while military helicopters landed at the hospital 21 times.
The hospital conducts regular training with the Coast Guard and Navy to “ensure safe patient hand-offs and to streamline patient care.”
