Police: Deputy fired gun after being struck by fleeing vehicle in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Norfolk are looking for a person who they say was involved in an assault of a sheriff’s deputy Sunday morning.

Norfolk Police said in a news release deputies with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office detained a woman around 1:30 a.m. She was suspected of committing larceny at Walmart at 1170 N. Military Highway.

Police said the woman fled the store during the investigation and got into a vehicle being driven by another woman.

As deputies were trying to apprehend the woman, the person driving the vehicle drove toward one of the deputies. The deputy fired their gun after they were struck by the fleeing vehicle, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the larceny suspect is described as being in her early 20s with tattoos on her right forearm (Linda and Tootsie). She was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and a camouflage fanny pack.

The driver is being described as a black woman in her early 20’s with partly died hair. She was reportedly wearing a multicolored shirt and blue jeans.

The vehicle, described as a silver four-door sedan, was last seen going north on on N. Military Highway.

Police said the vehicle has bullet holes in the windshield.
