NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk resident is hoping to get a public bathhouse built in Ocean View.
Mark Manning was born and raised in the city. He now lives and works in the Ocean View neighborhood.
Manning says changes to the city has sparked his pursuit to get a facility built where visitors and residents can shower after spending time at the beach.
“Who would not want to come for lunch, take a shower, and go back to work? That would be great,” he said.
Manning says that tourists would also be able to cut down on time it would take for them to go to their hotels to shower so they could participate in other activities and outings.
He believes it would be a great opportunity for all residents, including those who may not have access to water.
“You have no idea how much it means to a person telling them it’s good to see them. I’ve seen people break down and cry. If they had a bathhouse where they could take a bath, it would show people care about them, and we do love them. It would give them a hand up,” he said.
It’s a hand up he says other residents and business owners he’s spoken with are behind, but he encourages others to write to councilmembers about the proposal.
“Make calls, emails to show them that we really do support this project,” he said.
