NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect was taken into custody after a chase on Interstate 264 ended in a crash in Norfolk late Tuesday night.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said a trooper spotted someone driving 2019 Dodge Charger westbound at 90 mph near Ballentine Boulevard around 11:30 p.m.
The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver stopped in the middle of the interstate before taking off again. The driver reached speeds of 100 mph before exiting at Brambleton Avenue, Anaya said.
The driver then crashed and the vehicle he was driving caught fire. The trooper was able to get the driver out of the vehicle.
Anya said the driver, 21-year-old Jeremiah Anthony Wright, was OK and did not need to be transported to a hospital. He was arrested and charged with felony elude, two counts of reckless driving and four other traffic violations.
Wright was booked at the Virginia Beach City Jail because of an incident in downtown Norfolk.
