NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man is in custody following a six-hour barricade situation in Newport News.

Police say a 44-year-old man barricaded himself in a home around 7:10 a.m. on Friday in the first block of Pamela Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man to be “agitated and extremely dangerous.”

During the nearly six-hour-long barricade, police say the man made several threats against officers.

The man surrender around 1:10 p.m. and was taken into custody for a medical evaluation.

No one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
