NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A woman is in custody after a three-hour tactical situation with police Saturday afternoon.

Newport News Police say they were called to a home in the 800 block of Henrico Court after the woman allegedly flashed a gun at a man inside.

Officers attempted to talk the woman out of the residence, but she refused. Police say began to conduct a tactical response just after 2:30 p.m.

Police took the woman into custody around 6:13 p.m. She was identified as 44-year-old Donna Moss.

A resident nearby, Gary Carter, says the neighborhood off of Denbigh Street is usually a peaceful place where neighbors help each other with the groceries and walk their dogs.

“Very family-oriented people. Always walking these streets, every time you come through this neighborhood, people are getting their exercise,” said Carter.

While the investigation continues, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew is concerned with how the residents are doing and how they can move forward

“I think it’s important that they know what was going on here, but here again, we talk about a domestic situation that could have gone the other direction, so domestics continue to be an issue that we face,” said Drew.

Moss was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, according to police. Charges against Moss are pending.
