Man pleads guilty to charges in Newport News hotel room break-in

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was accused of breaking into a hotel room in Newport News last summer has pleaded guilty to charges.

Court records show Vincent Whitman pleaded guilty Wednesday to unlawful wounding and an amended charge of enter property to damage.

Newport News Police initially charged Whitman strangulation, unlawful wounding and burglary for the alleged incident, which happened at the In-Town Suites in the first block of Old Oyster Point Road.

Police said a 55-year-old man told officer he had been assaulted and choked by another man, who was later identified as Whitman.

In court on Wednesday, the strangulation charge against Whitman was nolle prossed, or withdrawn.
