According to the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, one patient had to be removed from a car involved in the multi-vehicle crash. There is no word how badly that patient was hurt or what caused the crash.

The Route 10 Bypass was closed in both directions.

The fire department said in a news release there was a “significant fluids leak” following the crash — and that the fluid had gone in the waterway below the bridge where the crash happened.

The release said regional and state authorities were notified about the leak.
