FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a man is in custody after a woman was fatally stabbed Tuesday in Franklin.

The woman was found with multiple stab wounds when officers responded to the 600 block of Hayden Drive, off South Street, just after 1 p.m.

The 61-year-old victim later died at Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital. She has not been identified at this time, but her body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk.

A second victim, a 64-year-old man, had a minor injury and refused treatment at the scene, police said in an update.

While at the scene rendering aid, officers were notified about a possible suspect walking in the 2000 block of South Street, around Harrison Street. Officers took him into custody without incident.

He’s been identified as Linwood Freeman, 54, of Franklin. He’s charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing and police say Freeman has a bond hearing pending. No other details were shared in a press release.
