CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A 19-year-old man was taken into custody in Chesapeake following a barricade situation Friday afternoon.
Chesapeake Police said they responded to a report of a domestic assault at a residence in the 3900 block of Holly Cove Drive around 1:44 p.m.
Then, officers learned that a known, wanted man, Roosevelt Montilito Jones, was still inside the residence and had an active warrant for felony eluding in Portsmouth. Jones was not involved in the original report of domestic assault that led police to the residence, police said.
Police said officers tried to get the man to come out of the home and surrender, but he refused to leave, and police assets including SWAT and Negotiations were deployed to get the man to come out of the home.
Negotiations were not successful, police said, which led to SWAT being deployed into the home and they took the man into custody at 5:29 p.m.
Chesapeake Police had a heavy presence on Holly Cove Drive Friday and worked through the afternoon, they said, to get Jones to surrender.
