Virginia State Police seek witnesses of I-64 shooting


HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are investigating a shooting on Interstate 64 early Friday morning. A woman is recovering from a gunshot wound.

According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya, the investigation so far has revealed that a red Dodge Journey was on westbound I-64 when the driver got into an altercation with someone in another vehicle, who in turn shot at the Dodge.

The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. east of Armistead Avenue.

A backseat passenger in the Dodge was injured by the gunfire. She went to Riverside Hospital in Newport News to be treated. Police say her injury is considered not life-threatening.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a white sedan or station wagon, according to state police.
