Heavy flooding reported in Hampton Roads neighborhoods

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- Heavy rains across the region caused many roads and neighborhoods to flood on Sunday.

Old Point Avenue in Hampton was one of those areas that was under water this morning.

Stephan Sterling tells 10 On Your Side he's been living at his home on Old Point for almost 20 years. He says the rainwater made it inside his home on Sunday and it’s not the first time.

“This is our third time going through this so I'm tired of going through this process over and over and over again,” Sterling said.

Like many other citizens, Sterling and his family have a routine for when the flood water starts to reach their home. “We have to lift up tvs. We have to lift up anything electric that can get ruined or whatever. We have to pick it up and put it on higher ground,” he said.

Just down the road from his home, a car got stuck in the higher waters.“That shows you just how dangerous this waters been getting,” said Sterling.

Many streets off East Pembroke Avenue in Hampton were also under water. Some people heading out to buy supplies to prepare for Hurricane Florence were greeted with flooded streets.

An areal flood warning for Hampton was issued for the area at 8:12 a.m. Sunday morning. The warning continued through 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
