PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters responded to an overnight fire in Portsmouth.

Dispatch said they were notified around 1:46 a.m. for a house fire in the 600 block of Virginia Avenue.

The fire was marked under control a short time later. No injuries were reported.

10 On Your Side spoke with Sermonte Jones, who owns the home next to the one on fire. “My brother called me earlier this morning. He was asleep. He rents the home from me. And he was like ‘man, there’s a fire going on next door that spread over here. The fire department just knocked on the door, they’re banging on the door like crazy.’ There’s nothing but smoke in the house he said.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
