CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a Friday morning shooting on Pond Lane in Chesapeake as a homicide.
It happened around 8:30 a.m., dispatchers said, in the 2000 block of Pond Lane. That’s in the Foundation Park area.
A police spokesperson confirmed an adult man died from his injuries inside a home and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police later identified the victim as 31-year-old Glen Lewis.
Officers responded to the scene after reports of gunshots heard in the area.
David McLean, who lives across the street, said he called 911 after a man ran out of the house yelling.
“I’m kind of in a whirlwind right now. I didn’t expect it. It’s first thing in the morning. I’m shocked,” he said.
McLean said he had just spoken with the victim.
“My friend pulled up and he jumped out of his truck. I asked him for a cigarette, gave me a cigarette. I asked if he was OK. As soon as he walked in the house, we heard gunshots. So I turned around, I was looking at my friend I was talking to and was like ‘Is that gunshots?’ He’s like ‘Yeah,'” he said.
Neighbors told 10 On Your Side they were not surprised by the violence.
McLean said it’s something that’s greatly impacting the younger generation and he hopes those responsible get justice.
“I hope they catch them. I hope they catch the perpetrators because no one deserves to die like that. Everyone deserves to live a long life,” he said. “This is just sad that the world would come to this. Everyone has guns now … babies. It’s sad. It’s really, really sad and I hope they catch the perpetrators and they pay for what they’ve done.”
