Chesapeake Police: Man barricades himself inside room after authorities try to serve narcotics warrant

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Chesapeake say they took a barricaded man into custody without incident Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the 1900 block of Yucca Street around 2 p.m. Tuesday to serve a narcotics search warrant.

Police made contact with the residents, but one of them, a man, barricaded himself in a room and refused to come out.

Another resident told police a small child was also in that room.

The Chesapeake Police SWAT Team and Negotiations Team both responded to the incident.

The incident happened in the area of Yucca Street, police said. The crisis negotiation team also responded.

At 3:49 p.m., the man was taken into custody without incident.

The child inside the room was not harmed.

There are several criminal charges pending against the man, police said.
