ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police have identified the woman struck and killed by a vehicle on the Eastern Shore Tuesday evening.
Just after 6:30 p.m., State Police were called to Lankford Highway and Mason Road for a single vehicle crash that involved a pedestrian.
State police said the woman who was hit died at the scene. They identified her Wednesday morning as 35-year-old Marlene Trakney of Nelsonia.
The investigation revealed Trakney was in the left travel lane when she was struck by a minivan traveling in the left southbound lane. Police are still working to find out why Trakney was in the travel lane in an unlit section of the road.
State Police have not said if the driver will face charges or not.
