NEW CHURCH, Va. (WAVY) — An 82-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after their Jeep crashed into a tractor-trailer in northern Accomack County.
It happened just after 9 a.m. on Route 175 (Chincoteague Road) in the area of Coardtown Road, Virginia State Police say. That’s right at Ray’s Shanty seafood restaurant on the road to Chincoteague.
Police didn’t have many details in an original release, only saying a medevac was requested for “serious bodily injuries.”
In an update at 11:43 a.m., police said the driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to back into a private drive on Route 175 when the Jeep struck the trailer while heading east toward Chincoteague.
Photos from police show the Jeep lodged into the trailer. Both the man and woman inside were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, where they’re expected to survive. Police said their injuries were non life-threatening.
Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
The road has since fully reopened.
