VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The J.E.B. Little Creek-based USS Gunston Hall was damaged Monday night while navigating through rough seas near Iceland, according to the U.S. Navy.
The amphibious dock landing ship’s landing craft utilities (LCU) and well deck were both damaged and the ship is currently in port in Reykjavik, Iceland, for assessment. There’s no timetable for when the repairs will be complete.
Several sailor were treated for minor injuries, officials say.
The Navy says the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York is also ported in Reykjavik to protect it from rough seas.
